Saints no call

Our favorite National Football League team, the New Orleans Saints, were in the Conference Championship game. It started around 2pm and we would not miss it! But we had time to see a bit of the Centro Historico, on a free tour with Estacion Mexico, before it started.

After breakfast, we headed to the Zocalo via Parque Alameda Central where the horses and riders were gathered.

We passed by a glorious Palacio de Bellas Artes on the way to the Cathedral to meet the tour.

The tour started at 11am and took us through the Centro Historico. The guide shared a lot about the history of Mexico as we passed by important sights (Templo Mayor, Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, Fine Arts Museum). I took too many pictures of the pretty doors on the way.

We left the tour a little early because it was time to watch the game. We settled into the TV space in the Executive Lounge at the Hilton. The game was intense. We ordered room service and G went off and got us delicious chicken wings. We lost because the referees did not call a blatant pass interference. (It was so blatant that the rules were changed the following season, and we Saints fans boycotted Superbowl LIE and the ratings tumbled).

We lost the game but still had beautiful Mexico City to soothe our souls.

After a break, we headed back out in search of dinner. We wandered down the pedestrian only Avenida Franciso I Madero and ended up at Tacuba. We were sat in the back room, the food was great, and the mariachis played.

After dinner, we wandered back to the hotel. We stopped at an open bakery.

And caught the end of mass at the Templo de San Francisco.

A disappointing football game but a lovely day in Mexico City.

Next: Teotihuacan and Basilica de Guadalupe and sushi.
